About this work

Medallion with a double head: folly and pride. The border is decorated with fantastic creatures and symbols and depictions related to the theme, such as Superbia, a peacock, the Whore of Babylon, the fall of Phaëthon, the fall of Marcus Curtius. Sheet from a series of 4 sheets with a medallion in a broad border of grotesques with figures, animals and leafy vines on a dark ground. The border around the medallion and the outer border contain Dutch and French verse lines.
