About this work

The female personification of the continent America sits with bow and arrow in an Amazon's seat on a giant armadillo. In the background to the left, animals such as sheep with long tails and goats with long ears. Cannibals slaughter a man and roast him over a fire. In the background to the right, a battle between Spaniards and the native inhabitants of America. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of a four-part series with personifications of the four continents.
