About this work
Simeon, the second son of Jacob. A tomcat sits next to him. Simeon is depicted with helmet and sword. He looks at the statue of Envy (Invidia), symbol for the jealousy of Simeon towards his brother Joseph. All these attributes refer to Jacob's blessing of Simeon in Genesis 49. The print is part of a series on the twelve sons of Jacob and patriarchs of Israel and has a Dutch and Latin inscription.
