About this work

Bacchus defeats Minerva, goddess of wisdom, with a sword. He pushes her away. Behind Bacchus lies the wounded personification of the senses. Wine thus causes memory loss and disturbs the senses. The print is part of a four-part series on the consequences of drunkenness.
