About this work
The personification of Piety (Pietas) is strangled by Lust (Venus) and Drunkenness (Bacchus). In the background, Piety is buried (left), while Drunkenness and Lust are triumphantly carried into the monastery. The print has a Dutch, Latin and French inscription and is part of a twelve-part series with the subject of the degeneration of the Catholic clergy and the causes of the uprising and the Iconoclasm.
