About this work

The extinguishing of the heavy fire between the Elandsgracht and the Elandsstraat in Amsterdam, caused by lightning on the night of 27 July 1679. From various houses, fire hoses are used to try to extinguish the fire. To illustrate the skill of extinguishing fires with hose fire engines. With a five-line caption in Dutch and French. Plate 8 in the Fire Engine Book by Jan van der Heyden.
