A Noble Woman of France

French noblewoman, in profile to the left, with hair combed straight back along the forehead, but on both sides from the temples along the face curled down to the shoulders. Double coiffure on the back of the head. Dress with a wide, low neckline, open pointed bodice, half-length open sleeves and a foot-length open, pleated skirt that drags somewhat. In the neckline a neckerchief trimmed with a scalloped strip of lace. The bodice closes at the front with nine horizontal bands over a light-colored bodice piece on which a bow at the top and bottom. In and under the open sleeves the shirt or under-sleeves are visible. The sleeves are trimmed with a scalloped strip of black lace and closed with a bow. Turned-back cuffs above and below the wrist trimmed with lace. At the waist with ribbon ties a mirror and an oval pendant (watch?) attached. The underskirt has a floral pattern. Long plain gloves. In the left hand a folding fan.
