About this work

Canto Thirty-Nine from 'Orlando Furioso'. Five knights hold Ariosto in check, who is tied to an overturned boat. Astolfus holds a bottle under Ariosto's nose in which his reason is kept. As soon as he has sniffed the contents, he comes to his senses again.
