About this work
Left the bailiff addresses a group of farmers who disagree with the appointment of a preacher. Right an old man and his wife. This scene illustrates the intention of a poet to make the simple life of a ninety-year-old graybeard the subject of his poetry instead of heroic deeds or love stories. Numbered: 11 and 2.
