About this work
A Christian knight, in armor with shield and sword, standing on a rock. Before him lies Envy, with snakes and a heart. To his left stands Vrouw Wereld (Lady World) who in vain offers him gifts. To the right a man with glasses and a book in his hand, symbolizing philosophy or science, and a devil on goat legs with bow and arrow. Above the knight an angel with laurel wreath and palm branch.
