About this work
Salmacis, one of Diana's nymphs, and Hermaphroditus at the edge of the lake where Salmacis lived. Salmacis fell in love with Hermaphroditus and clung to him so that their bodies merged. In the background, in the lake, the merging is taking place. In the margin, a four-line inscription, in two columns, in Latin.
