View of the Third Heiligeweg Gate and the associated bridge at the end of the Heiligewegburgwal in Amsterdam, seen from outside the city. On the right wax is being bleached. On the bank and on the bridge various figures. This city gate designed by Jacob van Campen was built between 1636 and 1638 to replace the wooden Second Heiligeweg Gate. After the Fourth Extension and the construction of the Leidse Gate (1664) this building had lost its function as a city gate, that same year it was demolished.
