View of the Third Heiligewegspoort and the associated bridge at the end of the Heiligewegburgwal in Amsterdam, seen from outside the city. Linen is being bleached on the right. Various figures on the bank and on the bridge. This city gate, designed by Jacob van Campen, was built between 1636 and 1638 to replace the wooden Second Heiligewegspoort. After the Fourth Expansion and the construction of the Leidsepoort (1664), this building had lost its function as a city gate; it was demolished that same year.
