Sheet with four oval scenes, each with inscription and date in Latin: top left Saint Alexander Carbonarius exchanging his mitre for the simple cap of a beggar or peddler, top right Saint Clare of Assisi with a monstrance, bottom left Saint Digna with three holy companions praying before a sarcophagus, bottom right Saint Concordia being tortured with whips. This print is part of a series of prints depicting the saints and the Christian feast days of the year. Four scenes from one plate are printed on each sheet. Including the corresponding title page and frontispiece, the series comprises 124 plates (490 depictions). The three plates with the last 12 scenes (the moveable Christian feast days) were cut down in the third state to 12 small prints and issued with a separate title page.
