About this work

Saint Cecilia stands naked in a pot of boiling oil and looks upwards with folded hands. Above her, an angel flies with a laurel wreath and palm branch. Two men show Cecilia the severed heads of her husband and brother-in-law. On the left, seated under a baldachin, is a Roman prefect. In the middle background, a statue of Jupiter on a pedestal.
