About this work

In a peasant interior a satyr and his family sit at the table. An old woman pours soup into a bowl for the satyr. This is the depiction of a fable, in which a traveler is a guest at a satyr and his family. The guest first blew into his frozen hands and then into his bowl of soup. The satyr said thereupon that the traveler could not be his guest, because this one could blow both warmth and cold from his own mouth.
