About this work

Allegorical representation of the alliance between Great Britain and France, 1801. In the center, the Maidens of Great Britain and the French Republic reach each other above an altar a hand through a snake ring, held by a winged Liberty. The whole is illuminated by light from a sun with the Tetragrammaton. Above Liberty flies a putto with a palm branch and a winged Fame blowing a horn. To the left, tyranny is driven away before a castle; to the right, a rising sun.
