About this work
Saint Francis ('Seraphicus Atlas') sits kneeling in a landscape, three globes rest on his shoulders. On one of them stands Mary. On the left Philip IV, King of Spain, accompanied by family members. They look up at Mary. On the right monks drive away devils. In the sky two chariots drawn by eagles and lions, in one Habsburg kings (on the left), in the other personifications of the cardinal virtues.
