About this work

Triumphal chariot of Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp with the Battle of Dunkirk 1639. Admiral Tromp seated in an open carriage drawn by sea-horses and accompanied by tritons and sea-nymphs, one of whom holds a banner with the coat of arms of Frederick Henry. In the background the Battle of Dunkirk on 18 February 1639. At the top cartouches with on the left the Battle of Gibraltar (25 April 1607) with a portrait of Jacob van Heemskerck, on the right the capture of the Silver Fleet with a portrait of Piet Hein (9 September 1628). The explanation of the letters in the scene is missing.
