About this work

Admiral Maarten Harpertsz. Tromp seated on a triumphal chariot with a throne in the form of a shell drawn by seahorses. In his hand he holds a trident and possibly a ship's rudder; around the chariot swim four tritons blowing on their trumpet shells. Fame floats in the air blowing a trumpet with a banner inscribed: Honor and praise be to Tromp. Putti hold a crown above the admiral's head. In the lower margin, a verse by Herman Frederik Waterloos.
