About this work

Admiral Maarten Tromp, fallen in the naval battle at Terheide on 10 August 1653, riding in a triumphal chariot over the sea drawn by horses and accompanied by tritons. In his hands a trident and a ship's rudder. In the sky Fame with two trumpets and three cherubs. An angel crowns Tromp with a civic crown. In the background a fleet of ships, in the sky the coat of arms of Tromp. In the inscription four lines.
