About this work

Admiral Maarten Tromp, fallen in the sea battle at Terheide on 10 August 1653, riding in a triumphal chariot over the sea drawn by horses and accompanied by tritons. In his hands a trident and a rudder. In the air Fame with two trumpets and three cherubs. An angel crowns Tromp with a burgomaster's crown. In the caption four four-line verses.
