About this work

Nicolaas Ruychaver stands with raised sword at the corpse of a Spanish-sympathizing councilman whom he threw out of the window, Alkmaar 1573. The councilman lies on the shards of the broken pane through which he possibly fell. This print forms part of a series of 24 prints depicting scenes from the life of Prince William I, 1568-1584, and is an illustration to the ninth canto.
