About this work

The bailiff takes the farmer's cow away after having exchanged it for a less excellent one. In the background, the farmer watches helplessly with his family. Representation no. 2 in a series of six small scenes of the successive episodes of the story of the Justice of Count William III in the year 1336. These small prints belong on both sides of the large central representation. Each representation has a caption consisting of a proverb and a verse of two columns of eight lines.
