About this work
The bailiff tries to buy the farmer's cow. Right: the bailiff of South Holland with a bag of money, left: the farmer and his family. In the background, the cow is being milked by the farmer's wife. Representation no. 1 in a series of six small scenes of the successive episodes of the story of the Justice of Count William III in the year 1336. These small prints belong on both sides of the large central representation. Each representation has a caption consisting of a proverb and a verse of two columns of eight lines.
