About this work

The bailiff attempts to buy the farmer's cow. On the right, the Bailiff of South Holland with a bag of money, on the left the farmer and his family. In the background, the cow is being milked by the farmer's wife. Scene no. 1 in a series of six small scenes of the successive episodes of the story of the Judgment of Count William III in the year 1336. These small prints belong on both sides of the large central scene. Each scene has an inscription consisting of a motto and a verse of two columns of eight lines.
