About this work

The personification of the Arts sits at a writing desk and is crowned by a trumpet-blowing putto with the symbol of eternity: a snake biting its own tail. At her foot walks a rooster. In front of the writing desk stands a woman with a spear and two little wings on her head. On a scroll above the scene the text: L. Smitthii Messis Aurea, et Theographia.
