About this work

Allegorical representation in honor of the marriage of Princess Louise of Orange-Nassau to Charles of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in The Hague on 14 October 1790, and of Prince Willem Frederik (the later King Willem I) to Wilhelmina Frederica of Prussia on 1 October 1791. At the top, the two bridal couples. The marriage on a pedestal is crowned by Religion, while Virtue places a necklace around her. On the left, Mars burning weapons; on the right, the personification of the wedding ceremony, with a shield bearing a porcupine.
