About this work

Allegory on marriage, placed in an ornate frame decorated with flowers, birds and trumpets. To the left a man takes the hand of his intended wife to lead her to the altar. The side of the pillar shows the portrait of two clasped hands, on top lie two burning hearts that are held by an angel with tongs. The personified Courage (Fortitudo) waits for the couple. At the bottom of the frame sits a putto on a cartouche on which the text "Amor Pretiosior Auro" stands.
