About this work
Allegory on the restoration, on the readmission of the province of Utrecht into the Union, after the departure of the French on 23 November 1673. The impoverished provincial maiden Utrecht is welcomed by personifications of Unity and the Generality. Behind them the war chariot and army of stadtholder William III with Hercules before the chariot and Prudence at the reins. Left the citizenry, Poverty and Religion sitting on the ruins of the Roman Catholic church.
