About this work

Two scenes on one plate. Above: the personification of the French Reformed Church, the Huguenots, is attacked by a wild man with a whip. This takes place under approval by personifications of the French monarchy and the French Catholic Church. Below a narrow scene of the persecution and expulsion of the Huguenots.
