About this work
Hercules, with the lion's skin over his arm on the left, fights with the centaurs. Hercules killed Eurytion here, who was to marry a girl who had previously been Hercules' beloved. The wedding feast turns into a battle. Jugs and sacks of wine spill out. Print is part of a series of prints that together represent the painted ceiling with the Apotheosis of Hercules in the Hôtel Lambert in Paris.
