About this work

The departure of the English King Charles II from Scheveningen to England, 2 June 1660. On the beach, a crowd of spectators; in the center, Charles takes leave of his sister and aunt. To the left, carriages, the dunes, and the village of Scheveningen; in the background, cannons fire salutes. In the sky, a portrait of Charles II held up by two angels with trumpets. In the inscription, legends 1-19 in Dutch and English.
