About this work
Allegory on the acceptance of the stadtholdership by Prince William V at his majority on 8 March 1766. The prince is led by his mentor, the Duke of Brunswick, to the seat of the stadtholdership. The prince is accompanied by Piety and Truth, at the throne wait Justice, Prudence and the Dutch Maiden. To the right the Angel of God drives away Discord, Fanaticism and Heresy. In the foreground genii play with the symbols of arts and sciences. Belonging to the print is a text sheet with explanation (see RP-P-OB-85.628A).
