About this work

Allegory on the acceptance of the stadtholdership by Prince William V on his majority on 8 March 1766. The prince is led by his mentor, the Duke of Brunswick, to the seat of the stadtholdership. The prince is accompanied by Piety and Truth; at the throne wait Justice, Prudence and the Dutch Maiden. On the right, the Angel of God banishes Discord, Fanaticism and Heresy. In the foreground, geniuses play with the symbols of arts and sciences. The print is accompanied by a text sheet with explanation.
