About this work
Allegory on the acceptance of the stadtholdership by Prince William V on his majority on 8 March 1766. The prince is led by his mentor, the Duke of Brunswick, to the seat of the stadtholdership. The prince is accompanied by Piety and Truth, while Justice, Prudence and the Dutch Maiden wait by the throne. On the right the Angel of God drives away Discord, Fanaticism and Heresy. In the foreground geniuses play with the symbols of arts and sciences. A text sheet with explanation belongs to the print (see RP-P-OB-85.628A).
