About this work
At the feet of Louis XIV lie the personifications of the Franche-Comté and cities in that area. Next to Louis a river god personifying the Doubs river. Behind the king Hercules and Minerva storm a rock, symbol of the fortress of Besançon, with the Spanish lion on top. In the sky the constellations visible at the time of the siege can be seen (Pisces, Aries, and Taurus). Far right sits the German eagle frustrated in a tree.
