About this work
An allegorical female figure sits by a tree, with a flame burning above her head, symbolizing zeal for the faith. She looks up at two putti bringing her a palm branch and a laurel wreath. On the table beside her stands an hourglass. To the right in the foreground are symbols referring to worldly power. To the left, on an altar, a burning heart with an eye. And at the foot of the altar, attributes for sacrifice.
