About this work
Minerva sits in a landscape near a monument bearing the portrait of the poet John Milton. At her feet, three putti play with his books, and a fourth with a compass. Minerva looks up at an allegorical figure who shows her a sheet of paper. On the sheet is a depiction of Adam and Eve being cast out of Paradise by the angel, and the title of the book in Dutch. In the sky, Fame blows her trumpet towards the monument.
