About this work
Allegorical representation made for the wedding of William Sterling and Johanna Maria Van Rijckevorsel, married in Rotterdam on 19 August 1744. The marriage god Hymen stands by the temple of Juno and receives the couple and their retinue: Peace, Joy, and Plenty. In the foreground sits the trade god Mercury, surrounded by packages with the initials of the couple. The representation is surrounded by a cartouche with grapevines and at the bottom the coats of arms of the couple.
