About this work

Emblematic print on the Peace of Münster, 1648. Prudence (Prudentia), Reason (Ratio) and Time (Tempus) forge the weapons of war into plowshares and other tools. Violence (Violentia) operates the bellows of the furnace. In the sky Peace (Pax) and Justice (Justitia). Inscriptions and verses in Dutch, Latin and French in and below the depiction. The print was originally made for the Eternal Edict in 1577. Here adapted to serve as an allegory on the Peace of Münster in 1648.
