Allegory on the past eighteenth century, 1799. In the center the standing personification of Religion at an altar. Time reveals above a pillar on which the most important events of the past century are listed. These are (from top to bottom): Death of William III (1702); Statholderate conferred on William IV (1747); Battle of the Dogger Bank (1781); Arrest of Princess Wilhelmina at Goejanverwellesluis (1787); Prince Frederick wounded in the Battle of Wervik (1793) and Departure of William to England (1795). On the right History points a youth to these events. On the left geniuses of the arts and sciences hang medals of the societies founded in this century on a tree.
