About this work

Rear of the triumphal arch of the Mint, erected at the beginning of the Sint-Michielsstraat or Kloosterstraat. Arch in the shape of Mount Potosí in Bolivia or Peru, where Spain won much silver. Atop the mountain, Hercules kills the dragon in the garden of the Hesperides while Hispania (Spain) picks the apples from the tree. On the left and right of the mountain, miners in the silver mines. In the middle, the god Vulcanus. Marked top left: pag. 155. Plate no. 36 in a set of 43 plates illustrating the publication describing the entry of Cardinal-Infant Ferdinand of Austria into Antwerp on 17 April 1635 as the new Governor-General of the Spanish Netherlands.
