About this work
The Netherlands as a refuge and shelter for refugees for the sake of religion, 1675. Centrally, the departure of the pilgrims from Delfshaven to America in 1620; on the left, the Jewish Synagogue built in Amsterdam in 1675 by Jews expelled from Spain and Portugal; on the right, the Walloon Orphanage in Amsterdam where the expelled Waldensians found shelter in 1733. At the top, the medal struck in 1688 to commemorate the loving reception of the expelled Huguenots from France; at the bottom, the medal struck to commemorate the aid provided by the Netherlands to the expelled Protestant Salzburgers in 1733.
