About this work

The prophet Ahijah has torn his mantle into twelve pieces and hands ten pieces to Jeroboam. The torn mantle symbolizes the division of the Jewish people. Jeroboam became king of ten of the twelve tribes. Below the image, two two-line verses in Latin, a two-line verse in Dutch and a reference to the biblical text in 1 Kings 11:29.
