Trade Label of a Textile Merchant, Possibly Willem Philip Kops (1695-1756)

Probably a trade label of textile merchant Willem Philip Kops (1695-1756) that was added to fabric samples sent to potential customers. At a monument sit the god of trade Mercury, with a money bag in his hand, and Abundance, with a Cornucopia full of riches. Mercury and Abundance sit on trade packages, probably bales of hackled flax. In the background merchant ships sail on the sea. On the monument a head of a black man in profile can be seen. The 'Moor's head' is one of the trade marks of the Haarlem yarn twine family Kops, who used this image mark because of their surname.
