Naval battle at the Downs between the Spanish fleet under the command of Antonio de Oquendo and the States fleet under Maarten Harpertsz. Tromp, 21 October 1639. In the foreground a burning ship and boats with crew members, on the right the captured Spanish ships. In the background the English coast between Walmer and Margate. The right plate in an unmounted ensemble consisting of a large representation in two plates and two text sheets.
