Auto-da-fé in Valladolid, 1558

Auto-da-fe (autodafe) in Valladolid, May 21, 1558. A procession of approximately thirty Protestants condemned to death by the Spanish Inquisition to a place outside the city where they are burned at the stake. In the center, a building with dignitaries, next to it a wooden tribune where the heretics are condemned. The condemned wear special headgear (capirote) and a mantle depicting the mouth of hell.
