About this work

Two scenes from the series on one sheet. On the left: the Duke of Alva courts the Whore of Babylon and the country's economy declines. Merchants, peddlers and sailors are unemployed, the ships lie in the harbors. On the right: Margaret of Parma, Granvelle and the pope support Alva's mission. Alva receives a sword and money from Pope Pius V. Granvelle holds a snake at Alva's ear. Both above and below the image 2 verses of 3 lines in German and French.
