Satirical print on the departure of James II for Ireland, March 1689. James takes leave of his wife Mary of Modena, who is meanwhile caressing Louis XIV. The French king gives James a bag of money; to the left, Father Peters (Edward Petre) with the supposititious child in his arms. To the right, the cardinal and Bishop of Strasbourg complains to the Dauphin, who sits on a donkey. To the front left, a small boat is being prepared for departure.
